Welcome to Understanding the World

In this issue we include a short overview and discussion of Prof Kevin Nelson's book The God Impulse. The focus is on life after death. We also include some interesting recent news articles.

In his book The God Impulse neurologist Prof Kevin Nelson argues that spiritual experiences – especially of the near-death type – could be ascribed to a particular type of consciousness, namely being awake while in the REM-state.
